Hello, hello! The MiXed MEdiA and Expressive Arts Workshop Series is going strong this summer!
On Sunday, August 2nd, 2015, you're invited to explore the many possibilities of using photographs in your art journal!
I have been keeping journals and taking photographs for at least 25 years. Since the year 2000, I have been incorporating photographs into my journals in creative and artful ways. I'd like to help and encourage you to do the same!
Have you got a few photos, let's say in boxes, on your camera memory card, on your computer, or on your phone?
If you answered yes, let's have some fun with those pics!
The first step is to print your photos! Walgreens is a great place to get photos printed, including square photos, and same day pickup! You can also print from home, if you have a home printer, and a software program, like iPhoto (on a Mac).
Here are some kinds of photos that are great for art journaling:
- self-portraits (face, shoes, hands, feet, eyes, hair, legs, smile, etc.)
- pet portraits
- family photos
- your coffee or tea
- nature photos

Are you ready to incorporate your photos into your art journal? If you need a little more convincing, keep reading.
Art journals are wonderful containers for the photos of your life. The people you see, the places you go, the things you love, are perfect subjects for art journaling, including photos of yourself!
Why not include pictures and words together? Sometimes a photo is enough; sometimes the words are enough. Art journaling with photos and words does not need to be complicated. Often times the combination of the two, makes the art journaling process easier. The photo sparks your words, or the art background will help you choose the photo(s), etc., etc.
Plus, when you keep art journals, and include photos of yourself, it is fun to look through your journals, say, 13 years later! : )
