Welcome to the Thermofax & Silkscreen Printing Workshop information and registration page.
This workshop is NOT focused on traditional screen printing. INSTEAD, we will be using Thermofax screens, or a silkscreen created by Martha Stewart crafts.
This workshop is geared toward mixed media artists who would like to learn how to use silkscreens on paper, cards, in mixed media art, or in their art journal.
Silkscreens can also be used on glass, fabric, and wood. Even though we will not be working on these surfaces in the workshop, you'll be able to apply what you learn to work on the above surfaces at home.
Here's what you'll learn in the Thermofax & Silkscreen Printing Workshop:
- How to use Thermofax screens and silkscreens for printing on paper (such as handmade greeting cards, Artist Trading Cards, mixed media art projects, gift wrap, and art journals)
- How to make a repeat pattern
- What kind of paint to use with silkscreens
- What kind of tools and brushes to use with silkscreens
- How to care for your silkscreens
- How to pull a successful print from a Thermofax screen or silkscreen
Here's what you'll need:
- At least two Thermofax screens or Martha Stewart silkscreens
- An art apron (I will provide a few, if you don't have your own)
- A bottle of water (to keep you hydrated)
- A playful attitude (Let's throw "perfect" out the window, ok?)
A Note About Purchasing Screens:
You can purchase the Thermofax screens on Etsy. Many sellers have the option of pre-made designs, OR you can have your own design created. The seller will provide you with instructions on how to upload your own design for them to print as a screen.
Since the workshop is on Sunday, May 29, 2016, you'll need to request fast shipping.
Here are a few shops on Etsy I suggest:
You can also purchase the Martha Stewart Adhesive Silkscreens from Michaels, JoAnn's, or from Amazon.com. (Note: These are getting harder to find, but they are still around. Check the clearance section at your local craft store, too!)
Below you'll see what the packaging looks like for the Martha Stewart Adhesive Silkscreens, as well as what the screens themselves look like.
