Welcome to the information and registration page for the online class COLLAGE PAPER PIES.
Let me tell you story of how Collage Paper Pies came to be.
I fell in love with the work of a woman my mom met in graduate school in the early 1990s at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.
Her name is Barbara Gilhooly.
She creates pieces she calls "layered discs."

I was also enamored with Sabrina Ward Harrison's art that I saw in her books in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
I was highly inspired by her circle pieces that looked like a mixed media pie.
In 2010, I entered an art show at the Minneapolis Institute of Art that happens only every 10 years. It's called A Foot in the Door. I was part of A Foot in the Door 4. The piece I entered is pictured below.
And here I am in the gallery, near my piece hanging on the wall of the Minneapolis Institute of Art!
As you can see, this circle pie shape has been living in my psyche for a long, long time.
It wasn't until recently that something clicked. I finally got the hang of making the "collage paper pies" that I have been dreaming about making for years!
I want to share this process with YOU!
I have been experimenting with a variety of papers-from scrapbook paper, to old art show post cards, upcycled wrapping paper, and my own hand-painted and Gelli printed papers, too.
Here are some of the results so far.
Take a look at the promotional video I created for Collage Paper Pies.
I will take through the way I am currently creating and experimenting with this modern art "pie", "wheel", "pinwheel", "color wheel" and "collage paper pie" motif. It's going to be lots of fun, with loads of ideas and inspiration on how to take this further and make it your own.
Class Details:
These collage paper pies would make great gifts, gift tags, ornaments, artistic elements for your journal, etc.
The virtual classroom opens on Monday, November 19, 2018.
You will receive three video lessons of collage paper pies being created from start to finish. Demonstrations will be shown both on canvas and on paper.
There will be some bonus lessons on creating your own painted and printed papers, and using stencils for more mixed media fun.
All lessons will be posted by Friday, December 7, 2018, which will give you plenty of time to make things for the holiday season, if timing and interest match up.
I also want to say that it's okay to make these just for yourself, too. I want to invite you into my world of art and happiness. Creative expression is so good for the soul. When you feel good, it's much easier to be gracious, patient, and forgiving of others that may need the following from you: grace, patience, and forgiveness.
