Big A** Altered Atlas Workshop-Minneapolis, Minnesota
Saturday and Sunday, October 17th-18th, 2015, 10am-5pm each day
This is a live MiXed MEdiA workshop where you will benefit from the energy of creating in a group setting.
Creating with other people is inspiring!
You get to learn from those around you.
Creating with other people is fun!
You get to laugh and play with art materials in a supportive environment.
Creating with other people builds your social support system!
You never know when you might meet someone you really connect with!
PLUS, there will be painting and mixed media technique demonstrations throughout the weekend. You are sure to learn a new technique or two!!
You will be encouraged to:
paint with large gestural strokes with big brushes
print with large letter stamps and use large letter stickers
create textured backgrounds
use 12 x 12 stencils over and under your pages
use spray inks, distress ink, and India ink
use oil pastels and art crayons
print with Gelli Arts Gel Plates
experiment with new tools and paint brushes
drip paint
use gesso
collage with matte medium
work with your non-dominant hand to loosen up and let go
You will also create a section in your Altered Atlas where you document supplies you tried. These pages are intended to be an amazing resource that you will be able to refer back to whenever you need to recall an art supply and how it worked/looked. You will also be able to observe how the art supply reacts to paper over time.
The Supplies Pages in your Altered Atlas may give you a clue into your personal color preferences and artistic style. You might even observe that the colors you like to create art with, are the same colors in your clothing choices and/or accessories. : )
The Big A** Altered Atlas Workshop is sure to delight, inspire, and make you feel more connected.
You will also learn how to make painted and printed papers that you can use in future art, journaling, or altered book projects. We will make some papers as a group, too.
Two full days to focus on YOU and your creativity! Yes, yes, yes!! You need to create time and space for your art. Art is good for your whole self.
I've got a supply list prepared for you, if you like to use your own stuff.
You can also simply bring a large paperback atlas (15 x 10 inches) and a bag lunch. I will have all of the other supplies for you to borrow.
BONUS: Each person will also receive an exclusive collage papers pack. I've been collecting unique, hard to find treasures, just for you!

SUPPLIES LIST
- Large Road Atlas (15 x 10 inches)-Paperback (unless you prefer spiral bound)
- Find one at Target, Walmart, Thrift Store, Amazon.com
- Fluid Matte Medium (Liquitex, Blick, or Collage Pauge)
- White Gesso in bottle by Liquitex
- Black Gesso in bottle by Liquitex
- A Roll of Wax Paper
- Near the saran wrap, foil, etc.
- A Roll of Bounty Paper towels
- A Plastic Placemat
- Find one at Target in Kitchen area
- Roll of 2 inch or 3 inch wide masking tape
- Find at DickBlick
- Spray bottle with water inside
- Round 10 well plastic paint tray

- Heat It Craft Tool by Ranger (+ extension cord)
- Soft rubber brayer (Speedball)
- Catalyst Wedge, shape 1
- Paint Brushes (Catalyst Polytip Brushes by Princeton or Robert Simmons Titantium brushes)
- Filbert, size 12, long handle
- Filbert, size 2, long handle

- 1”, 2”, 3” flat all purpose brushes, like these by Artist’s Loft
- 10-12 Craft Acrylic 2 oz. paint bottles (A variety of colors) + white and black

- Stencils, stamps, rubbing plates you love

What: Big A** Altered Atlas Workshop
Who: Adults interested in exploring mixed media art materials, working large, and creating in a group setting. Adults who need a designated time and space to get their creativity on!
When: Saturday and Sunday, October 17th and 18th, 10am-5pm each day (bring a bag lunch, or money to purchase food at Lakewinds Food Co-op)
Where: The Artful Nook, Richfield, Minnesota
