Color Study Stripes
On an 8x8 inch watercolor paper, we'll work on a color study where we focus on blending and lifting color.
Suggested Supplies:
- 140 lb. watercolor paper-8x8 inches
- watercolors
- round brushes-size 6 with a good point
- Artist's Tape (i.e. Nichiban masking tape 24mm, or 1/2 inch low tack artist's tape)
- paper towel
- water jar

Using Stencils to Create Characters, Shapes and Patterns
Are you a collector or creator of stencils?
I know I am!
Let's put our stencils to use by creating characters, shapes and patterns.
Feel free to work in your journal or on loose paper for more of a "paper doll" project.
Suggested Supplies:
- Stencils i.e. Megan Quinlan, Leaca Young, StencilGirl, Joggles
- Water-soluble media-markers, watercolors, pencils
- Pen/Pencil for tracing
- Paper-journal or loose mixed media/watercolor paper
- Scissors (if cutting out characters)
- Fine tipped markers and gel pens for adding fun details

Gel Printing with Plants
Summer is a great time to observe and honor nature.
Let's gather a few leaves, even dandelion leaves are great, and use them with the gel plate!
Suggested Supplies:
- Gel Plate 8x10 inches (or any size you have)
- Soft rubber brayer
- Acrylic paints
- plants from outside
- paper for printing, i.e. copy paper or cardstock
- paper for rolling off the brayer (I like to use legal size copy paper)
- wax paper
- plastic cloth for placing wet prints

Spots, Dots, & Dashes using Inks
I once wrote a poem about pink ink. I adore ink!
How about you?
Fountain pen ink, drawing ink, acrylic ink, tech ink, I love it all!
Let's get those beloved inks out and play!
We'll make spots, dots, and dashes, or whatever else you want to make!
Suggested Supplies:
- Watercolor or mixed media paper
- Tracing paper or onion skin paper
- Self-healing cutting mat (to stabilize tracing paper)
- ALL of the inks that you have (or maybe a nice selection of them)
- ball point pen for labeling (optional)
- dip pen (metal or glass nib) (optional)
- paint brush(es) that are NOT your best watercolor brushes
- baby wipes
- paper towels
- an old chopstick
- bamboo dip pen (optional)

Night Sky Drawings (Inspired by Lucy J Mahon)
Stars, moons, buildings, people and plants are common themes in the work of Lucy Mahon.
Let's get out our best colored pencils and art crayons, and get coloring!
Feel free to grab your favorite sun, moon, and star stencils, too.
Maybe an eyeball or two would be fun to add to the sky?
Let your imagination take over.
Suggested Supplies:
- 4.25x6 inch watercolor paper OR 4x8 inch watercolor paper
- pencil and eraser for sketching
- pencil sharpener
- stencils of sun, moon, stars, buildings, trees, etc. (optional)
- colored pencils i.e. Holbein Artists' Colored Pencils-Prussian Blue, Luminous Red, Raisin, yellows, oranges, browns, Jaune Brilliant, Pink, light blue, etc.
- Caran d'Ache Neocolor I artist crayons (optional)
