Hello Creative Ones!
Some people were curious about the latest in-person class I taught, which was Magazine Mixed Media Collages. I thought I'd give you a little peek into the creative classroom! Sound good?
First, of all, this class was inspired by the collaged color studies I saw on Instagram created by artist Emily Filler.
Not knowing Emily's process, I simply grabbed some magazines, a glue stick, and some acrylic paint, and started playing. Here are some samples of what I ended up with:
I just really had a great time creating these pieces, and I thought other people might enjoy such a process, too.
I taught through my local community education, where I get to be in a school with an art room.
I carefully set up the space, so that all supplies are accessible as needed.
Here are a few photos of the class participants doing their own creative exploration after I described my process.
As you can see, everyone was really engaged! I answer individual and group questions as they come up, we chat, and have a great time!
Below is the example I created during class to demonstrate how I create a magazine mixed media collage.
I had seven participants show up to class, and I was so thrilled with what they created. Here are some photos from our sharing time near the end of class. Sharing time is my favorite part! Each person gets a chance to shine and share how it all went for them.
I didn't get a great photo of one student as she was sharing, but if you look at the photo below, her beautiful collage work is in the bottom left corner.
Overall, the Magazine Mixed Media Collage class was a success! I received nice comments and feedback about how much participants enjoyed themselves. When the student is happy, the teacher is happy. : )
