Good Day to You!
Have you ever been to a craft supply store, like Michaels, and been completely sucked in by color? If you are an artist (even if you aren't quite naming yourself as such), this has probably happened to you, many, many times. If I could, I would probably purchase every multicolored art supply pack, simply because color gives me great satisfaction. Can you relate?
The sets of paints always have a gravitational pull for me. Recently, I purchased a set of Reeves Water Color paint in tubes.
This is student grade watercolor paint. The color strength is good, and I enjoyed playing with it.
Below, I will share some process photos of my paint exploration with Reeves Water Color.
I worked in an old multi-purpose sketchbook. The paper is not really intended for watercolor, but it worked out fine.
I decided to use a paint palette that had a little left over, dried watercolor paint on it. To activate the dried paint, I simply added a little water with my brush and let it sit for a minute. I was sort of surprised how fast the paint "came back to life".
I think it might be interesting for you to know that the original paint choices on the palette were made by one of my workshop participants. I thought I might push myself to try using "someone else's colors", rather than the colors I normally choose.
More often than not, when I paint, I do not plan ahead. I simply start putting color to paper, and I play with my brush (or other paint tools I may be using).
Once I got going with making those shapes with the paint brush, I was reminded of those big pom plants with the delicate little petals. Obviously, I am not very good with plants, but I might be thinking of a white hydrangea.
Continuing to use the colors already chosen on the palette, I decided to try to add some dimension with the rusty brown colored paint.
I also love the colors turquoise and rusty brown together, so I had to dip into that turquoise. I painted a horizontal line.
The turquoise horizontal line turned into grass.
Next, I started painting inside the spaces between the blades of grass.
Since I had a ground, I decided to also paint a sky.
I saw pink for the sky, so I created my own, as there was not a pink in the pack of paint.
That's it! That's the page I painted using Reeves Water Color paint tubes.
Overall, I like the paint. The color is good, the price is good, and it's a great way to begin exploring tube watercolor paint.
Have an amazing day!
