Hello and Happy Friday,
I'd like to share a painting video with you today, but first, allow me to share a little background.
If you have been reading the Orange Spiral Arts blog since the beginning of 2016, you probably know that I launched a program near and dear to my heart. It is called the Beautiful BEing Program where participants get to the truth of their lives through writing + painting. This is done through stream of consciousness writing, writing from open-ended prompts, and through a method of intuitive painting called spontaneous expression. As many things go in my life, I envisioned and announced this program before I knew what it was actually going to look like. (I call this "acting as if", and "trusting the universe"). All I knew is that it was going to be deep, powerful, and full of creative expression through writing + painting.
I studied hard. I reviewed my entire master's position paper (aka thesis), read entire books, went over class notes from online classes I'd taken, and got to work on paper. I wrote, and I painted.
One major thing I learned when painting was that I was trying too hard. I was still stuck in my head, and wasn't fully engaging my inner wisdom and intuition.
The video I am about to share with you was my first mistake. It's a video where I thought I was going deep and listening to my intuition, but later realized THIS IS NOT IT AT ALL. I am still stuck in my head thinking about color, balance, pattern, and trying to make the end result look good.
There's nothing wrong with painting abstract shapes, patterns, etc., if you are simply wanting to play with supplies and practice trusting the process of painting. It's fun! However, this is NOT the intuitive, spontaneous painting that I was going for.
I talk about this in the first session of the Beautiful BEing Program Online. I share the video below, then I share a video of what intuitive, spontaneous expression actually looks like. There's a big difference!
My hope is that the video I am about to share will inspire you to pick up your paints and play. I also would like to invite you, if you want to go deeper and connect with your inner wisdom, to consider signing up for the Beautiful BEing Program. There's nothing else like it.
Enjoy your day, and paint because it's good for you!
Blessings,
Briana
