Hello Creative Soul! May this post find you well today.
I want to share a little story with you. It is about a positive experience I had receiving a comment on my Instagram account, brianacreates, from a fellow artist. She simply said, "I've been on a similar kick!!" She commented on a photo of watercolor circles I painted earlier this week (see image below) for Watercolor Wednesday.
Her comment intrigued me to look at her Instagram feed, and I LOVED what I was seeing.
I have come to find out that Amy Maricle is an artist, an art journaler, and an art therapist. If you live in Massachusetts, you might want to look her up!
This week's Freedom Through Painting Friday comes from the inspiration I gathered from one of Amy's art journaling videos. Her ideas are fresh and unique to her. To see what I mean, visit Amy's Google+ page here. Click here to see the video that inspired this week's Freedom Through Painting Friday.
Before I share my painted journal pages with you, I just want to say that I love promoting the work of other artists. It feels good to help spread the word, and spread the love of work I believe in.
Okay, here we go with . . .
Freedom Through Painting Friday-Finger Painting in Your Art Journal
Supplies:
An art journal
Sharpie marker
Acrylic paint
Your fingers
A paper towel or rag
BEGIN:
Draw some lines across your pages with the black Sharpie marker.
Then create a pattern of concentrated dots at one intersection of lines.
Choose a color, any color. Squirt the paint on your page and start spreading it with your finger.
Choose a second color of acrylic paint. Drop it in your journal.
Continue adding paint and spreading it with your fingers.
Adding white with another color begins to give value to that section.
Finally, I added my favorite combination, orange + pink in the top section of my page spread (pictured below).
Finger painting is something I do a lot in my art lately. It feels really primal to me, and it helps me get in touch with my creativity and intuition in a unique way.
I've talked about finger painting a couple of other times on my blog here, here, and here.
I hope this edition of Freedom through Painting Friday will inspire you to grab your art journal and play like a child in preschool. It's okay to make a mess! It's okay to mix colors into mud! All of your exploring will help you understand more about your own creativity and your true self.
Happy Creating! Have a Beautiful Time!
