Welcome to Watercolor Wednesday! Today I am sharing the first two pages in my brand new art journal I recently purchased from LK Ludwig. If you don't know of LK Ludwig, I invite you to go to her site, as well as look up her books on Amazon.com. I adore her work! My two favorite books by LK Ludwig are True Vision and Creative Wildfire.
Pictured below is my beginning set up. I grabbed some basic art supplies, along with the hand bound journal by LK.
I usually like to have a variety of paint brushes at the ready, but often end up using only one, maybe two.
First, I created a wash of water on the paper (pictured below).
Next, I grabbed some paint with a wet brush, from the Pelikan Opaque Watercolor tray.
I recently found this spiral stamp at a local shop called ArtScraps. Since the stamp is made of foam, I was curious to see if it would soak up the wet paint and leave a spiral shape on the paper. It kind of worked. (See below).
I love the deckled edge of this paper, so I wanted to accentuate it with a colorfully painted border.
I recently became slightly obsessed with the art of Heather Day. Although I don't wish to make art exactly like hers, I love using the work of other artists as inspiration.
Here's a little secret. Even though I enjoyed painting this first page (above), it didn't really feel like "me". Like I mentioned earlier, I was thinking of the artwork by artist Heather Day. I love color and mark making, but my inner artist voice was saying, "eh eh, that's not you. That's not your work."
So . . . . I decided to let loose, and not try to do anything other than enjoy the process. Just simply play with color and paint. My second painting in the journal felt much more satisfying-less controlled-more freeing and fun.
I love dripping paint. It was really fun to watch the different colored drips roll down the page and into other colors.
That's it for this edition of Watercolor Wednesday! I hope you enjoyed this post. If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.
Happy Creating and Have a Beautiful Day!
Blessings,
Briana
