Welcome to the first Watercolor Wednesday blog post on Orange Spiral Arts!
Each Wednesday, I will share some watercolor art and the specific type of watercolor paint used. There also might be a few art tips here and there.
To start this series off, I decided to try painting on brown paper. This paper is not special AT ALL! In fact, it is likely the brown paper you would find in the shipping and receiving department.
I have a sweet friend who saves this brown paper for me from her workplace (thank you Cyndie!!) because she knows that I love it, and I will use it. See, here I am using it!
This is what my workspace (eh-hem, the kitchen table) looked like when I got started.
I decided to paint some patterns across the paper. I am using PRANG semi-moist watercolor paint.
Patterns continued . . . I was curious how the white watercolor paint would work. The coverage was varied, but it worked fine. Later in this post, I will show you the dried version.
From Xs to stripes.
I turned the paper around and painted some magenta dots. I put a dark purple dot in the center of each circle.
I let the paper dry, not quite sure how saturated the color would appear, or how opaque the white would be.
Here are the results:

Last, but not least, here are the watercolor painted stripes:
In summary, I am quite pleased with how the watercolors worked on the brown paper. The yellow doesn't show up that well, but that makes sense because it is sort of close in color to the background.
The dried version turned out better than expected, especially the white paint.
This paper is now going in my arsenal of painted papers to be used for wrapping gifts, making collages, glueing into art journals, or adding to a handmade card. : )
