Last month, I went to Wet Paint to see and meet a local author/artist that I have been following on the web. Her name is Rachel Awes, and she has a new book out called, All I Did Was Listen. This is the same title as her online blog, which you can see here. Rachel is a spirited, arty, joyful woman. She exudes kindness and color. It is such a pleasure to meet her in person. Rachel is hugely inspiring to me, and I would love for others to get a taste of her goodness, too. Below are some of the photos I took of Rachel reading from her new book of colorful illustrations and poems. She also did a demo of how she creates her illustrations. She uses copic sketch markers. They are bright, "juicy", and work really well on paper that is specifically designed for markers and pens. Pentalic makes a nice pad called, "Paper for Pens".
I highly recommend that you take a look at Rachel's blog. She is constantly sharing her fabulous art, as well the art of others. Also, if you are on the hunt for a new book that will warm your heart, make you laugh, cry, and breathe deep, All I Did Was Listen won't disappoint.
